Every route, property and guide we put in front of you is one that somebody on this team has used personally. That is the whole basis of the company, and it is the reason we will happily tell you when something famous is not worth your morning.
We do not sell packages. Each itinerary is drafted from a conversation about how you actually like to travel — how early you want to start, how far you are willing to drive, whether you would rather see three places properly or eight of them briefly — and then revised until it is genuinely yours.
What follows is the part that is difficult to advertise: licensed chauffeur guides who know the country, properties chosen for the room rather than the brochure, permits and reservations handled quietly, and one named person in Sri Lanka on the end of a phone for the whole of your trip.
Six things that decide whether a Sri Lankan journey is memorable or merely completed. None of them are on a price list.

It is a feeling.
It is the cold at 1,900 metres after a week on the coast. It is a tracker switching the engine off and pointing, without a word, at something in the scrub. It is being handed a plate in a kitchen you were invited into an hour ago. The famous things are worth seeing. The rest is why people come back.
Not a checklist. These are the individual mornings and afternoons that tend to become the story of the trip, and they slot into almost any itinerary.
At the gate before it opens, up the 1,200 steps while the rock is still in shadow, and on the summit as the dry zone comes out of the haze below.
The continental shelf runs close to shore here, which brings the largest animal that has ever lived within an hour of the harbour wall.
One tracker, one vehicle, and the discipline to switch the engine off and wait. The highest leopard density on earth rewards patience.
An hour in the fields with a picker, a working factory floor, and a tasting through the grades that explains everything you thought you knew about tea.
Four hundred years of Portuguese, Dutch and British trade inside one sea wall, walked at the hour the stone stops radiating heat.

The other monsoon
When the south coast is under rain, Trincomalee and Arugam Bay are glass. Fifteen days up the coast almost nobody visits in July.

Bawa-designed villas, a planter bungalow taken exclusively, private trackers and a fort townhouse with the ramparts to yourself at six in the morning.

Eight heritage sites
