The bay at Pasikuda is protected by an offshore reef, which leaves a long shelf of shallow, still, bath-warm water. For families with small children it is the safest sea on the island.
The resorts here are newer and more comfortable than most of the east coast, and the reef offshore is recovering well.
Pair it with Trincomalee or Polonnaruwa; it is two hours from each.
